
Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds.
We start this week down at the Jamyang Buddhist Centre where they are holding another Holbeck Jumble Sale on Saturday. This promises to be a fun morning of bargain hunting featuring clothes, accessories, household items and more with everything for £1 or less, and the café will be open. 10am-1pm Clyde Works, Ingram Road, LS11 9RQ.
Then you can head up to Belle Isle for St Peter’s church’s Jumble Sale. From 1pm, entry 20p, LS10 3QN.
Leeds United have two home matches this week. On Saturday they entertain Manchester City in the Premiership, kicking off at 5:30pm. Then on Tuesday they host Sunderland with a 7:30pm kick off. You can expect the usual heavy traffic and parking issues around Beeston, Holbeck and Cottingley before and after each match.
The Friends of Middleton Park are holding their monthly litterpick on Sunday, meeting at the visitor centre by the lake at 1pm. Equipment is provided.
Hunslet RLFC face Sheffield Eagles in the Championship on Sunday at South Leeds Stadium, LS11 5DJ. Kick off is at 3pm, tickets from: hunsletrflc.ticketco.events.
On Sunday evening Leeds Knights take on the Basingstoke Bison in the NIHL National Division. The ice hockey match faces off at 5:15pm at Planet Ice on Elland Road.
The Outer South Community Committee, which now includes councillors from Middleton Park, meets at Leeds Civic Hall on Monday at 4pm, you can watch a livestream of the meeting on the council’s website.
Beeston Hill Community Association hold their Community Iftar at Lane End Primary School at the bottom of Beeston Road on Monday evening. This is a great opportunity for friends and neighbours of all beliefs to break fast together during Ramadan. The event starts at 5:30pm and is free, but booking is essential as places are limited. As it’s the first week of March there are a number of residents meetings taking place, starting with Middleton Community Group which meets on Monday, 6-7pm, at the Middleton Elderly Aid Social Centre, Acre Road, LS10 4LF.
The Garnet and Oakley Tenants & Residents Association also meet on Monday at 6:30pm at the St Luke’s CARES Charity shop, 246 Dewsbury Road, LS11 6JQ.
Buy, Sell, Swap is the new version of the jumble or car boot sale and you can take part in one at Manorfield Hall Community Centre, Newhall Road, LS10 3RR on Tuesday 10-11:30am. Entry is free, refreshments will be on sale, get down a buy, sell or swap new and used items.
Are you struggling with your computer? If so drop in to Tech Tuesday at Jamyang Buddhist Centre in Holbeck (LS11 9RQ), 10am-2pm for expert advice.
Stronger Together is a friendly support group for parents, guardians and carers who care for children and young people with disabilities. It is a monthly space to chat and share. The next meeting is on Tuesday, 11am-1pm at BITMO’s GATE, Aberfield Gate, LS10 3QH.
Rooted, the new crafting group are holding two workshops this week in Beeston. The first is Gelli Plate Printing, a process suited to natural motifs, on Tuesday, 1-3pm. Then on Friday evening, 7:30-9:30pm there is a workshop upcycling old, broken and unloved jewellery. Both workshops are at 153 Beeston Road, call Tannia to book on 07917 157830.
On Tuesday evening the Scalarama Film Festival is holding a fundraising evening at The Holbeck club, Jenkinson Lawn, LS11 9QX. Doors 6:30pm, the evening includes a screening of Goodnight Brooklyn at 7:30pm.
There’s more computer support on offer on Wednesday with the Digital 121 Support drop in session at Beeston Community Hub & Library (LS11 8PN) 10-11am and at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library (LS11 6PF) from 1:30-2:30pm.
There is a drop-in councillor surgery at Gascoigne House, LS10 4YA in Middleton on Thursday morning 9-10am.
There are two further residents meetings on Thursday. Firstly, Hunslet Carr Residents Association meets on Thursday, 6:30pm, at Woodhouse Hill Community Centre, LS10 2EF.
Then at 7pm Beeston Community Forum meets on Thursday at Beeston Village Community Centre, off Town Street, LS11 8DQ.
Middleton Elderly Aid host their monthly free legal advice drop-in on Friday morning from 9:30-11:30am at their Social Centre on Acre Road, LS10 4LF.
And finally, there is a Police Contact Point at Cottingley Community Centre on Friday, 10am-12pm. This is a chance to raise concerns or ask questions of the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team in an informal setting.
