Anyone living in Leeds will get a chance to vote on how to spend £100,000 of the People’s Fund to tackle Serious Violence at an event in Hunslet.
The Mayor of West Yorkshire Tracy Brabin’s People’s Fund is making up to £100,000 available for each district where groups and organisations can bid for up to £10,000 each.
The funding supports projects that reduce serious violence through education, prevention, awareness and community safety. We especially encourage projects addressing knife crime, violence against women and girls and gang exploitation. Any project related to Serious Violence will be considered.
Serious Violence includes crimes involving physical force or power, threatened or actual, against oneself, individuals or groups/communities. In West Yorkshire, this includes homicide, knife crime, personal robbery, gun crime, violence against women and girls, organised crime (like county lines), sexual exploitation and domestic abuse.
Local groups, organisations, agencies or service providers who have already submitted ideas will present their projects to residents who will vote on what they want to see in their community. The projects with the most votes will be eligible to receive funding.
Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire, said:
“This ‘People’s Fund’ will empower local communities to deliver solutions that they know will make the biggest impact. By giving them the resources they need at their disposal, we can turn their ideas into action.
“Using this money recovered from criminals, we are investing back into our neighbourhoods, preventing more lives being lost to the scourge of serious violence.”
The ‘You Decide’ event will be held at Leeds City College – Printworks Campus on Tuesday 10 March 2026 from 7-9pm.
