Football pitch plan for former Hunslet industrial site

Football will be played in a new indoor facility in south Leeds after plans were agreed with the city council.

Plans were drawn up for the conversion of an industrial unit on Pepper Road in Hunslet into a five-a-side playing space. Leeds City Council approved an application for the scheme, which would include changing facilities, spectator seating and a reception area.

A design report said the project at Chengate House would bring an un-used warehouse building back into public use. It said:

“The site is a vacant industrial storage unit located within an established commercial area.

“The unit benefits from good transport links, accessibility, and proximity to residential communities, making it an ideal location for a recreational facility.”

A change-of-use planning application was formally approved by the council on Friday (27 March 2026). The report said:

“The development will contribute positively to the local economy, improve health and well-being, and make effective use of an underutilised building.”

A council planning officer’s report said the artificial pitch would be open to the public from 9am-10pm daily. It said:

“The proposal would result in the reuse of an existing vacant unit and provides a valuable leisure offering to the general public.”
