Candidates announced for May’s local elections

The candidates for the 2022 Leeds City Council elections have been announced.

We’ve published full lists of the candidates on separate pages for Beeston & Holbeck ward, Hunslet & Riverside ward and Middleton Park ward.

We’re writing to all the candidates to ask them about why they are standing and what their policies are. We will publish their answers as they send them in so keep checking back to compare answers and make your choice.

We will also be hosting online hustings for each of our three council wards where you will be able to put your questions to the candidates. These will take place in the week commencing Monday 25 April. We will publish more information including how you can join the meeting soon, but in the meantime have a think about what question you would like to pose.

South Leeds Life does not support any political party, but we urge all our readers to use their vote on 5 May.

If you haven’t voted before, or have moved house recently you will need to register to vote by midnight on Thursday 14 April. You can register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote it only takes five minutes, have your National Insurance number to hand.

The deadline to apply for a postal vote for these elections is 5pm on Tuesday 19 April 2021. Find out more at: www.leeds.gov.uk/your-council/elections/postal-voting

We expect votes will be varified on Friday 6 May with votes counted on Saturday 7 May. We will bring you the results as soon as they are announced.
