Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds.
Leeds Dads will be holding another free Soft Play session, 10am-12pm on Sunday morning at Little Angels behind the Tommy Wass pub, LS11 7HL. This for dads and pre-school children and there’s free tea and toast! Book: leedsdads.org/events
There will be various Councillor surgeries on Saturday from 11am-12pm at Beeston Community Hub & Library (LS11 8PN); 12-1pm at St Matthew’s Community Centre in Holbeck (LS11 9NR); and from 1:30pm at BITMO’s Gate in Belle Isle (LS10 3QH).
The Holbeck Moor Fun Fair continues over the weekend : 1-9:30pm on Saturday and 1-6pm on Sunday.
Over in Belle Isle there is plenty happening at BITMO’s Gate centre, Aberfield Gate, LS10 3QH on Saturday. First up there is a group litter pick taking place on the estate from 11am-1:30pm. Meet at the Gate and return afterwards for pay-as-you-feel toasties and tea. All equipment provided. Then from 1-4pm it’s the Belle Isle Repair Café. The fixers and stitchers will be on hand to give your goods a second lease of life. There will also be school uniform and tea and toasties will be on offer. Slung Low email
Leeds United host Crystal Palace in the Premiership, kicking off at 8pm on Saturday. You can expect the usual heavy traffic and parking issues around Beeston, Holbeck and Cottingley before and after the match.
On Sunday afternoon you can enjoy a free guided walk organised by the Friends of Middleton Park exploring the park’s impact on the Industrial Revolution in Leeds as part of Leeds 400. Meet at 1:30pm at the visitor centre in Middleton Park.
Better Beeston are holding a community litter pick on Sunday afternoon. Meet on Maud Avenue at 3pm, equipment provided.
The Outer South Community Committee, which includes Middleton Park ward, will be meeting on Monday afternoon from 4pm at East Ardsley Community Centre (WF3 2AP).
There are a number of Police Contact Points this week. This is a chance to raise concerns or ask questions of the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team in an informal setting. On Tuesday they will be at Hunslet Community Hub & Library from 10am-12pm. On Wednesday they are at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library. Then on Thursday they will be at Beeston Community Hub & Library on Town Street.
A Councillor advice surgery will be held at Middleton Elderly Aid’s Social Centre on Acre Road on Wednesday from 9:30-10:30am.
Slung Low, Holbeck’s own theatre, is holding a performance skills workshop for adults (18+) on Wednesday, 6-8pm, exploring different performance techniques covering movement, vocal skills, text work and character development. Hunslet Remembered is a chance to reminisce and discuss local history on Thursday from 10am-12pm at Hunslet Community Hub & Library, off Church Street, LS10 2NS.
The Salvation Army hold their monthly Friendship Lunch on Thursday, 11am-1pm at their base on Hunslet Hall Road, LS11 6QB. It’s a warm space with chat and games etc plus a free snack lunch.
And finally, Cockburn Laurence Calvert Academy in Middleton (LS10 4AX) is holding an Open Evening on Friday, 5-7pm, for children currently in Year 6 and their families.
