
Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds.
We start in Beeston at Cross Flatts parkrun, the free, weekly 5k walk, jog or run, which celebrates its 13th birthday on Saturday. There will be music, singing, very likely cake and fancy dress is encouraged, but not mandatory. The event starts at 9am at the top of the park near the Watsonian Pavilion.
There’s another anniversary just down the road at the Rowland Road Play Patch. The first birthday party will include open play for all ages, creative workshops, party activities, birthday games and a craft fair hosted in partnership with Beeston Hill Community Association.
Beeston Womblers invite you to join them on a litter pick on Saturday morning. They will be meeting at the Tommy Wass pub at 10am and working their way to the fire station.
Hunslet ARLFC host a top of the table clash with West Hull on Saturday afternoon at Hunslet Club Sports Village, opposite Morrisons, kick off at 2:30pm.
The Tommy Wass pub in Beeston is hosting Rock’n’Roll Bingo on Saturday evening. Live music, free buffet, raffle from 7:30pm.
Donkeys will be out in force on Sunday with two Palm Sunday parades. In the morning they will lead a parade setting off from the Salvation Army on Hunslet Hall Road at 10:30am, via the United Free Church on Malvern Road ending at St Luke’s Church at 11am.
Then in the afternoon it’s the Hunslet Palm Sunday Parade, organised by the Hunslet Gathering. It sets off from St Mary’s Spire on Church Street at 2pm with families carrying palm leaves and plenty of easy conversation along the way with music and some readings.
Beeston Hill Community Association will be meeting at their new venue Building Blocks Centre on Maud Avenue, LS11 7DD, on Monday evening, 6:30-8pm.
Support, rest and relaxation are on offer to survivors of domestic abuse on Tuesday at this month’s Survivor-led Sisterhood meeting, which will include a guided meditation. St George’s Centre, Middleton, 11am-1pm.
The Greenmounts & Surrounding Area Tenants & Residents Association meets on Wednesday at 6:30pm at Rowland Road Working Men’s Club, LS11 6ED.
There is a drop-in councillor surgery at Gascoigne House, LS10 4YA in Middleton on Thursday morning 9-10am.
There are two further residents meetings on Thursday. Firstly, Hunslet Carr Residents Association meets on Thursday, 6:30pm, at Woodhouse Hill Community Centre, LS10 2EF.
Then at 7pm Beeston Community Forum meets on Thursday at Beeston Village Community Centre, off Town Street, LS11 8DQ.
Skelton Grange Environment Centre invite you to their Easter Good Friday event – a glorious outdoor trail wandering through the woods and gardens at Skelton Grange. Complete a treasure hunt along the way and trade in your trove for a chocolatey Easter surprise at the end! 11am-1pm, book tickets here.
And finally, there’s another Easter Egg Hunt in Cross Flatts Park, Beeston on Friday. Organised by Mosaic Church it takes place from the Watsonian Pavilion café, 11am-12pm.
