Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds.
We start this week in Cross Flatts Park, where organisers are preparing for thousands to attend this year’s Beeston Festival, 12-5pm. Expect live music, great food, kids entertainment, sports, live animals and a fun fair. There will be free water refills, but make sure you put sun cream on and wear a hat!
Also on Saturday, St Cross Church in Middleton (L10 4HT) are holding their Summer Fair from 11am-2pm with refreshments, tombola, cake stall, books and white elephant. Everyone is welcome.
Thatto Heath Crusaders are the visitors to Hunslet ARLFC on Saturday afternoon at Hunslet Club Sports Village, opposite Morrisons, kick off at 2:30pm.
On Sunday the Friends of Middleton Park present a concert by the South Leeds Community Band. 2-4pm on the bandstand near the visitor centre.
There are a host of Police Contact Points this week. This is a chance to raise concerns or ask questions of the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team in an informal setting. On Tuesday they will be at Hunslet Community Hub & Library from 10am-12pm. On Wednesday they are at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library. Then on Thursday they will be at Beeston Community Hub & Library on Town Street.
A new Craft, Create & Journal group for women is starting at Hunslet Community Hub & Library on Tuesday, 2-4pm. Free, relaxed group for women to bring their own crafts or journal or try something new. Contact Tace on 07394 979432.
Support, rest and relaxation are on offer to survivors of domestic abuse on Tuesday at the first of this month’s Survivor-led Sisterhood meeting. St George’s Centre, Middleton, 11am-1:20pm.
There’s more computer support on offer on Wednesday with the Digital 121 Support drop in session at Beeston Community Hub & Library (LS11 8PN) 10-11am and at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library (LS11 6PF) from 1:30-2:30pm.
On Wednesday morning Bookbank will be at the Leeds South & East Foodbank at Hunslet Methodist Church on Telford Terrace, LS10 2HR with their pop-up stall of free books.
There is a drop-in councillor surgery at Gascoigne House, LS10 4YA in Middleton on Thursday morning 9-10am.
Do you have concerns about crime and anti-social behaviour? Holbeck Together is holding a Crime Prevention session at St Matthew’s community centre (LS11 9NR) on Thursday, 10am-12pm. Come and speak to crime prevention officers who can answer questions and offer advice to help you keep you and your family safe.
There are two residents meetings on Thursday. Firstly, Hunslet Carr Residents Association meets on Thursday, 6:30pm, at Woodhouse Hill Community Centre, LS10 2EF.
Then at 7pm Beeston Community Forum meets on Thursday at Beeston Village Community Centre, off Town Street, LS11 8DQ.
And finally, Middleton Elderly Aid host their monthly free legal advice drop-in on Friday morning from 9:30-11:30am at their Social Centre on Acre Road, LS10 4LF.
