
Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds.
We start this week in Holbeck where Acorn, the community union, is holding a Summer Fete at Holbeck Working Men’s Club on Saturday from 12-5pm. Pop in for games, refreshments, bouncy castle and more. Jenkinson Lawn, LS11 9QX
Just across (under) the motorway Beeston Hill Community Association are holding their Summer Fair at Lane End Primary School (LS11 6AA) from 12-4pm. Visitors can enjoy a petting zoo, circus skills workshops, arts and crafts activities, live entertainment, plus a range of stalls run by local traders, makers and community groups.
Over in Belle Isle there is plenty happening at BITMO’s Gate centre, Aberfield Gate, LS10 3QH on Saturday. First up there is a group litter pick taking place on the estate from 11am-1:30pm. Meet at the Gate and return afterwards for pay-as-you-feel toasties and tea. All equipment provided. Then from 1-4pm it’s the Belle Isle Repair Café. The fixers and stitchers will be on hand to give your goods a second lease of life. There will also be school uniform to swap and tea and toasties will be on offer. Then from 1:30pm there will be a Councillor surgery.
As well as diesel trains running at Middleton Railway this weekend, on Saturday there’s a free talk at 2pm about The Round Foundry by Helen Gomersall-Guy.
Leeds United have a pre-season friendly against FC Augsburg, kicking off at 2pm on Saturday. You can expect the usual heavy traffic and parking issues around Beeston, Holbeck and Cottingley before and after the match.
Hunslet Rugby Foundation are holding a Bingo Night on Saturday at Leeds Corinthians (next to Middleton Leisure Centre, LS10 4AX). Tickets cost £5 for one adult and one child and its Hawaii-themed fancy dress!
On Sunday there’s a great opportunity to try a new sporting activity as the Friends of Middleton Park present ‘Middleton’s Got Active’. There will be bowls, football, den building and more. It all take place between 12-3pm near the visitor centre.
On Tuesday, 11am-1pm, the Neuro Divergent Disability Support Group for adults with diagnosed or undiagnosed ADHD or Autism meets at BITMO’s GATE centre in belle Isle LS10 3QH.
There will be a ‘Care & Repair’ information stand at Middleton Elderly Aid on Wednesday, 9:30-11am. Find out about their handyperson scheme, home adaptations and the financial and benefits advice they offer. Then ‘Stand By Me’ is this month’s choice for Film Club. Grab your drink and hot dog, the show starts at 12:30pm at their Acre Road social centre (LS10 4LF).
The Hamara Healthy Living Centre in Beeston is holding a free Community Open Day on Wednesday. Pop in between 11am-2pm for a fun filled day including: Savage martial arts, bouncy castle, playground games, Diddi cars, football with the Leeds United Foundation. Tempest Road, LS11 6RD.
And finally, there is a Police Contact Point at Cottingley Community Centre on Friday, 10am-12pm. This is a chance to raise concerns or ask questions of the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team in an informal setting.
