Tennis lessons set to start in Cross Flatts Park

Starting this month, group tennis coaching at Cross Flatts Park joins part of the wider Leeds community tennis programme, organised by Active Leeds and designed to increase participation and provide accessible opportunities for players of all ages and abilities.

Delivered in a welcoming park environment, the programme supports both beginners and those looking to develop their skills.

All sessions are delivered by Leeds City Council’s LTA-qualified tennis coach, Saf, ensuring a high-quality, safe and engaging coaching experience for all participants.

The coaching programme runs every Thursday and is structured to offer clear pathways across different age groups:

4:30–5:30pm: Children aged 5–9 years
5:30–6:30pm: Girls only (10–16 years)
6:30–7:30pm: Adult beginner/improver (16+ years)

All sessions are 1 hour long and cost £2 per session, ensuring the programme remains affordable and inclusive for the local community.

To launch the programme, a free open day will take place on Thursday 16 April, with sessions running at the same times as above. Book here: clubspark.lta.org.uk/crossflattspark/EventsV2

Following this, weekly paid sessions will begin on Thursday 23 April and continue through to mid-September.

The courts at Cross Flatts Park are free to access year-round and can be booked online, making tennis easily available to the local community. Book a court: clubspark.lta.org.uk/crossflattspark/Booking/BookByDate

This initiative has been made possible through funding from the Sport England Movement Fund, helping to remove barriers to participation and encourage more people to get active through tennis.

Overall, Active Leeds’ Cross Flatts Park coaching provides a strong example of community-focused sport delivery, combining free court access with low-cost coaching to create meaningful opportunities for long-term engagement in tennis.
