Store First, one of the UK’s leading self-storage providers, has announced the rollout of a new fleet of lithium-ion electric forklift trucks across all 16 of its locations nationwide, including its Stourton site.
The investment marks a significant upgrade from the company’s previous lead-acid battery-powered equipment, introducing modern, maintenance-free trucks designed to improve operational efficiency and ease of use for on-site teams – for the benefit of customers.
Dave Bronski, Account Manager at Stevenson’s Ford Trucks, who has worked with Store First for over four years, commented:
“The previous trucks Store First had were lead acid battery powered, and they were getting a bit dated. The trucks we’ve supplied are lithium-ion – they’re just a lot easier to use. There’s no maintenance from the operator side, and they’re fully sealed, meaning there’s no topping up of the battery cells. All in all, it makes it a safer, easier truck to use, and they allow for opportune charging.”
The rollout will see a total of 16 machines deployed across Store First’s UK facilities, supporting both domestic and business customers who rely on the company’s wide range of storage units, from small 25 sq ft spaces to larger garage-sized units.
Michael Crossley, Leeds Store First Manager added:
“We work with domestic as well as business customers, so efficiency is key. We’re rolling out 16 machines across our 16 stores. The product came highly recommended. With the lithium battery, it lasts three to four times as long as we were using before, and we’re able to unload multiple pallets with ease. Compared to the previous trucks, it’s just blown them out of the water. This all goes to improve our service to our customers!”
Toby Whittaker, Managing Director commented,
“We continually invest to help our colleagues give the most efficient service to our customers. These new fork lifts will be a really useful addition to our fleet!”
The introduction of lithium-ion technology brings multiple operational benefits, including significantly longer battery life, reduced downtime through opportunity charging, and the elimination of routine battery maintenance. This not only improves productivity but also creates a safer and more user-friendly working environment for Store First teams.
In addition, the move supports Store First’s broader commitment to sustainability by reducing reliance on older battery technologies and improving energy efficiency across its operations.
As Store First continues to expand its presence across the UK, the new forklift fleet will play a key role in supporting day-to-day operations and enhancing the overall customer experience.
This latest investment reinforces the company’s commitment to innovation, ensuring its facilities remain modern, efficient and equipped to meet the evolving needs of both personal and business storage customers.
