South Leeds Life Group plans way ahead

Seven of us gathered at St Luke’s Church in Beeston this afternoon to discuss how to make South Leeds Life a better blog.

We started by reviewing the new design which seems to have been very well received. The group feel it is easier to navigate, that it loads more easily – we really don’t like to crash our readers’ computers! – and the addition of the What’s On section is very helpful. We particularly want to thank the Friends of Holbeck Cemetery generously agreed to pay our first year’s hosting fee.

One glitch we are aware of is that readers have lost their email notification of new posts on the website. Our technical solution is to ask you to sign up which you can do on the home page. Simply type in your email address and you’ll receive a daily email with a summary of that day’s stories.

We heard that the current Community Reporters course is going very well. Second course will be starting in February for residents of Middleton Park ward. We are also planning some evening workshops for people who can’t get to the daytime courses.

We discussed what sort of stories we should be covering. As well as specific stories such as the proposed Ice Rink on Elland Road, we thought some articles debating the pros and cons of a subject and some day-in-the-life profiles of local community figures. We are also planning another campaign, but more of that next month. We also want to do a round up of this year’s community pantomimes in South Leeds (oh yes we do!) – if you have details of one near you, please let us know.

Our next meeting will be on Thursday 13th December, why not come and join us?
