Sing Aphasia choir launches in South Leeds

Local charity, Speak With IT, have launched a choir to help people with aphasia (speech-loss following stroke) and they’re looking for new members to join. This choir meets monthly to pick songs and work on melodies. We’re currently practicing Christmas classics in the run-up to Christmas, but usually practice a range of songs and requests.

We’re looking for people with aphasia and their carers to join our choir to have fun, meet new people and use singing as an aid to encourage speech production. The benefits of singing therapy for people with aphasia are well documented, but more than this, singing makes us feel good about ourselves and allows us an excuse let it all out.

The choir rehearse every second Monday of the month from 1 – 3pm at Tenants Hall, Acre Close, Middleton LS10 4HX (from January 2020), but we have even more rehearsals organised in the run-up to Christmas, with additional sessions on 2 and 9 December at Manorfield Hall, Winrose Drive, Belle Isle, LS10 3RR.

So even if you just fancy joining for the carolling season, you’re welcome to come by and sample our excellent biscuit selection.

Travel expenses to and from the choir can be reimbursed for some participants. Email Hattie at hforeman@speakwithit.org or call 01924 888608 to find out more.
