A wave of energy, confidence and community spirit has swept through Hunslet Nelson Cricket Club this summer as the hugely successful Girls‑Only Dynamos Cricket Programme reached its finale.
What began as an introduction to cricket for many of the girls has quickly grown into something far more powerful — a thriving, joyful cricket community where young players are discovering their skills, their confidence and their love for the game.
Over the eight‑week programme, the girls impressed coaches, parents and club volunteers with their enthusiasm, teamwork and rapid progress.
Some arrived having never picked up a bat before; they now leave as cricketers who can bowl, bat, field — and most importantly, support one another with the kind of spirit that makes a team truly special.
The success of the Dynamos programme has paved the way for the launch of the Hunslet Nelson Girls’ Softball Cricket Team, open to girls aged 6 and above. The team trains every Friday at 6pm, offering a fun, friendly and confidence ‑building environment for players of all abilities.
Whether a girl is completely new to cricket or already hooked on the sport, she’ll be welcomed with open arms. The focus is simple: fun, friendships and giving cricket a go.
Anyone interested is encouraged to come along, meet the coaches and join a growing community of young players who are proving that girls’ cricket is thriving in South Leeds.
The club’s commitment to female cricket doesn’t stop with the juniors. Hunslet Nelson is also home to a dedicated and welcoming Women’s Cricket Team, who are actively looking for new players.
Whether you’re returning to cricket, trying it for the first time, or simply looking for a new way to stay active and meet people, the women’s team offers a social and enjoyable environment. Training sessions are friendly and suitable for all experience levels.
Hunslet Nelson’s investment in women and girls’ cricket is clear: female coaches, inclusive sessions, and a pathway from beginner to team cricket. The club is determined to ensure that every girl and woman who wants to play has a place to belong.
Girls and women across the community are invited to be part of the journey — to learn, to play, to laugh, and to help shape the future of cricket at Hunslet Nelson.
Wednesdays – 6pm – Hunslet Nelson Cricket Club, Gipsy Lane, Beeston, LS11 5TT.
