English Civil War Day at Middleton Park

Did you hear gunfire in Middleton Park on Sunday (11 May 2014)? Don’t worry it was just part of English Civil War day.

The event was organised by Friends of Middleton Park as part of their summer activities and featured the Historical Services Group and Friends of Stank Hall Barn.

The video shows the demonstration firing of a Falconet (small canon) and the loading and firing of a musket. It was a very windy day, hence the poor sound quality.

Both weapons were used during the 17th century war between Parliament and the King. Other weapons on display included a longbow, pikestaffs and swords along with armour and helmets from the time.
