Calling all Chatterboxes: talk for a change at White Rose!

This Friday (9 March 2018) sees Speak With IT – a Yorkshire charity supporting people with aphasia – at the White Rose Shopping Centre holding a ‘Talkathon’ competition event, for anyone to enter.

Aphasia affects 40,000 people in the UK every year: come have a chat to find out more.

Entrants to the Talkathon will pick any topic, then will be timed talking on the topic for as long as possible – without mentioning the topic word, or moving off-topic. Speak With IT and the White Rose Management team are offering a £50 White Rose gift voucher for the winner; the first 40 young chatterboxes will also receive a free small pack of sweets. Find the charity outside WH Smiths inside the centre anytime between 10am until 8pm.

Speak with IT works across the region, supporting those with aphasia to improve their communication skills using innovative computer therapy programmes. Aphasia is a condition that often follows strokes or brain injuries, when the part of the brain that deals with speech, memory and language is damaged. About 40% of people who have a stroke are diagnosed with aphasia – approximately 40,000 nationally every year.

Join them at White Rose this Friday (9 March 2018) to find out more about their work, and to see if you can be crowned the biggest chatterbox in south Leeds!
