Members of the Middleton Life local history project yesterday began planning the panels which will form a permanent focus at Tenants Hall Enterprise Centre.
The project, which will end in June with an official unveiling of the panels, sees members of the community learning about the history of Middleton through trips out to places like Middleton Park, the railway and museums, as well as interviewing fellow residents and drawing on their own memories.
Middleton has a rich mining history in the park and woods, but it’s also got a rich social history, too.
As well as the panels chroniclign Middleton’s history, members are also putting together a film about Middleton, a special stained glass window for Tenants Hall with the help of Cockburn School and pupils from Middleton Primary are also contributing a tapestry based on Middleton Park’s history. Pupils at Cockburn have also interviewed members about their memories for a special radio programme.
Next Wednesday’s session will see the group view some possible design styles and continue its planning. More details on 280 6903.
