Hunslet Club To Start Girls Football Squad

The Hunslet Club is pleased to announce the start of football training sessions for girls in school years’ 5, 6 & 7 on Fridays between 6 and 7pm, with a view to having a team ready to compete in a girls league in September. Sessions will be led by an FA Qualified Coach. Says Craig Gilmore, Sports Development Officer at the club “we have had some fantastic girls playing for our younger squads for quite some time, the demand is there to bring them together along with any other girls who want to join in and hopefully become another winning Hunslet squad.” Newcomers are very welcome. Sessions cost just £1.50 per week

Footballers at the Hunslet Club have had much to be proud of this season. The pre-school toddler sessions are busy every week. The under 11’s, 12’s and 14’s have won their respective league titles, the Under 12’s are into the Supplementary Cup Final. The under 16’s won the the Powerleagues 6 A-Side Tournament, came 2nd in the Clubs for Young People Northern Regional Tournament and are the national final later this month. The Clubs’ open age team have won the Leeds & District Cup and are through to the Yorkshire County Cup Final next week.

The club is the Official Affiliated Academy Partner to Leeds United in South Leeds, having hosted their Girls Centre of Excellence for a number of years following a £450,000 winning collaborative bid to Barclays Spaces for Sports & the Football Foundation between the Hunslet Club and Leeds United  for the state of the art training facilities which the club uses daily. “We are very grateful for our links with Leeds United” explains Craig “It has been great working with their coaches and training talented players to the point where we’ve referred them to their team scouts and seen them go on to join their youth squads.”
