10 years ago I began my political journey to remove Labour from Belle Isle and Middleton. It took 6 years, but I kept going despite challenges.
In 2022 I had the honour of being elected to serve the only communities I’ve ever lived in. I went to school here, and generations of my family have been raised here—it’s in my blood.
I love where we live and have worked hard to improve it by listening and acting on people’s concerns. I’ve helped develop more activities for young people, but there’s more to do.
With £20m secured for the Middleton estates, we have a real opportunity to improve our streets and make the area welcoming again. We want a wellbeing centre offering mental health support, activities for young people, and space for community groups. We’re also pushing for more playgrounds and better play provision.
In Belle Isle, we’ve improved Middleton Way play park and made Coopers Fields more secure, with plans for more play areas.
Fly tipping remains a major issue, especially on the Westwood estate. We aim to fence off problem areas and work with the council’s enforcement team to tackle it.
I will always be honest and transparent—you deserve nothing less.

I’ve faced challenges from an early age. I lost my parents when I was young and experienced homelessness, which shaped much of who I am today. I started my working life in Leeds Market and, through determination and hard work, worked my way up into senior management. It hasn’t been an easy journey, but those experiences gave me resilience and a strong sense of purpose.
Now, when I speak to people in my community, one issue comes up time and time again: antisocial behavior. Many believe the solution is more police, and we do, but from what I see, we’re losing more and more youth programmes every year. I don’t believe we should be criminalizing our young people. Instead, we need to give them positive opportunities, safe spaces, and support.
For me, community outreach is vital. It’s not just about young people—it’s also about our older residents, many of whom feel isolated and forgotten. Bringing people together and strengthening those connections can make a real difference.
I truly believe that if we invest in our communities and provide meaningful opportunities, we can tackle the root causes of antisocial behaviour and create a safer, more united place for everyone.
