What’s On Roundup 7-13 September 2024

Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.

It’s Skelton Grange Environment Centre’s Open Day on Saturday 7 September, 11am-4pm. Enjoy nature walks, activities and refreshments at the award-winning eco-building and nature area. Skelton Grange Environment Centre, Skelton Grange Road, LS10 1RS

Hunslet Nelson Cricket Club’s First XI take on Heckmondwike and Carlinghow CCon Saturday at Gipsy Lane, LS11 5TT starting at 11:30am. Then on Sunday the Under 15 XI play Birstall CC starting at 2pm.

Semi-professional South Leeds FC play Nostell Miners Welfare FC in a league game at South Leeds Stadium on Saturday afternoon, kicking off at 3pm.

The Heritage Open Days festival starts this week with a host of local events including talks at Middleton Railway; a 1970s slide show at The Cross Keys pub; walks along the Aire & Calder Navigation; tours of the DePuy Synthes factory; Beeston Hill Community Cinema; a heritage pub walk; Waddington’s at the Discovery Centre; and a look at Hunslet’s Rugby History. St Luke’s Church, Malvern Road, Beeston Hill, LS11 8PD are serving up their monthly family breakfast at 9:30am, you can stay for morning worship at 10:30am, but you’re not obliged to.

Sunday also sees the monthly Farmers Market running from 10am-4pm with lots of good food straight from the producers, at Armouries Square, Leeds Dock, LS10 1LT.

It’s the Great Middleton Park Show on Sunday, organised by the Friends of Middleton Park. Expect stalls, food, live animal displays, children’s activities and, of course, the Produce Show. It all takes place around the Visitor Centre by the lake from 1-4pm. Entries for the produce show should be brought between 8:30-11am.  Full details at: show.fomp.co.uk

The Leeds Libraries Story Bus will now be calling regularly at three stops in South Leeds. This week, and then fortnightly in term time, the Story bus is bringing its Story & Rhyme session to Belle Isle TMO (LS10 3QH) on Tuesday from 10:30am-12pm. The bus will also call at Parkfield Avenue, Beeston (LS11 7LX) every other Tuesday from 1-3pm and St Matthew’s Community Centre in Holbeck (LS11 9NR) from 10am-12pm every other Thursday.

The Middleton Life History Group meets on Wednesday, 10am–12pm at Trinity Network, Nesfield Road, Belle Isle, LS10 3LG

On Thursday there’s a late addition to the Heritage Open Days events with a Holbeck History Walk at 4pm. Starting from Marshall’s Mill (LS11 9YJ) the walk will explore the origins of the industrial revolution. Book here

And finally, on Friday you are invited to see the amazing work created by residents on the Creative Communities Pride In Place workshops in Middleton. The exhibition is at Middleton Park Baptist Church, Middleton Park Avenue, LS10 4HT. Drop in between 12:30-3pm.
