What’s On Roundup 24-30 May 2025

Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.

We start this week on the bowling greens of South Leeds, where you are welcome to drop in and have a go at the sport during the Bowls Big Weekend. Cranmore Bowling Club on Cranmore Avenue, LS10 4AW will be welcoming visitors on Saturday 12-4pm. And the greens at Middleton Park (near the lake) will be open 12-3pm on Friday, Sunday and Monday. Also at South Leeds Conservative Club in Beeston on Sunday 11:30am-4pm; and at Cross Flatts Park Bowling Club on Monday 12-4pm.

The Rowland Road Play Patch, co-ordinated by Yorkshire Contemporary at Rowland Road WMC in Beeston is now open every Saturday 11am-2pm. This week there will also be a fun self-defence session for children.

As it’s a bank holiday weekend, Middleton Railway will be open Saturday, Sunday and Monday with trains running from 10:30am-3:30pm. And as it’s half term they will also be running on Wednesday. Due to the continuing dry weather the railway is running a diesel service to avoid the danger of line side fires.

On Sunday Litter Free Hunslet will be out litter picking from 12-2pm, meeting at the Church of the Nazarene on Lupton Street, LS10 2QR. All equipment will be provided.

Saturday sees Hunslet Nelson’s First XI take on Bowling Old Lane CC at their Gipsy Lane ground, LS11 5TT starting at 12pm.

Also on Sunday, the Friends of Middleton Park have organised a guided walk around the park exploring The Ghosts of Buildings Past. Join them at 1:30pm at the Visitor Centor by the lake, off Town Street.

On Monday St Mary’s Church in Beeston have organised a family fun day from 10:30am-3:30pm. St Mary’s is on Town Street opposite Nisa, LS11 8PN.

On Tuesday morning from 10am, Hunslet Moor House, the new extra care flats on Hunslet Hall Road, LS11 6TT are hosting a fundraising coffee morning in support of St Gemma’s hospice.

Cycle you way through the menopause’ is a new women’s cycling group taking place in Cross Flatts Park every Tuesday, 9:30-10:30am. Pedal your way to happiness with like minded women. The free sessions are led by a female instructor and bikes are provided. Meet by the Watsonian café.

Beeston Library on Town Street, LS11 8PN, hosts a Kids Club Lego session on Tuesday 2-3pm. This free family friendly is suitable children aged 5+. Book at www.ticketsource.co.uk/leedslibraryevents

There is an opportunity for children to spend a day playing outdoors at Skelton Grange Environment Centre in Stourton on Tuesday, 10am-4pm. Activities may include campfire cooking, crafts, shelter building, stalking and tracking, and/or wide games. For children aged 8-13 years. There are a host of Police Contact Points this week. This is a chance to raise concerns or ask questions of the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team in an informal setting. On Tuesday they will be at Hunslet Community Hub & Library from 10am-12pm. On Wednesday they are at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library, 10am-12pm and at Ingram Gardens Community Centre from 10am-12pm. Finally they will be at Beeston Community Hub & Library on Town Street on Thursday 10am-12pm.

If you have time on Wednesday, Leeds Discovery Centre on Carlisle Road, LS10 1LB are running a give-what-you-can, family-friendly, historical clocks workshop. Take a closer look at some of the amazing clocks in their collection and have a go at making your own wall clock to take home. 10am-12pm or 1-3pm, booking essential at museumsandgalleries.leeds.gov.uk/whats-on/145//turn-back-the-clock

Cllr Wayne Dixon (SDP, Middleton Park) will be holding an advice surgery at Middleton Elderly Aid’s Social Centre on Acre Road on Wednesday from 9:30-10:30am.

At Holbeck Cemetery, Fairfax Road, LS11 8SY, volunteers will be meeting at 10am on Wednesday to carry out various tidying up activities. New people are always welcome and equipment is provided.

There is a coffee morning and bingo at Cardinal Court in Beeston on Wednesday 10am-12pm organised by MHA South Leeds.

Also on Wednesday, Leeds Federated Housing Association have organised a litter pick at Hunslet Lake. The litter picking will take place between 11am-1pm with equipment provided. That will be followed by an afternoon of food, activities, competitions and a chance to chat to staff about money advice, tenancy matter or anti-social behaviour.

Hunslet Remembered is a chance to reminisce and discuss local history on Thursday from 10am-12pm at Hunslet Community Hub & Library, off Church Street, LS10 2NS.

And finally, on Friday residents of Beeston & Holbeck ward can meet their Councillors at the monthly surgeries: 4pm at Beeston Library on Town Street; 5pm at St Matthew’s Community Centre in Holbeck; and 6pm at Cottingley Community Centre.
