What’s On Roundup 19-25 November 2022

Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. Please note that our online What’s On calendar here is currently out of action

We start this week down in Holbeck where Jamyang Leeds are celebrating their 25th anniversary. Between 9am-5pm there will be open door sessions including essential oils, massage, yoga, sound baths and singing bowls. Then from 6-10pm music, buffet and dancing. It’s all free and taking place at their centre on Ingram Road.

The South Leeds Alliance For Clean Air are holding an organising meeting on Saturday morning at 10am at the Dolce Vita café, 289 Beeston Road.

Hunslet Methodist Church’s Christmas Fair takes place on Saturday morning from 10am at Telford Terrace, off Balm Road.

There is a coffee morning at Beeston Parish Centre, Town Street, 10am-12pm.

Cardinal Court in Beeston are holding their Christmas Fair on Saturday afternoon at 1pm.

St Luke’s Church are hosting another community pizza takeaway on Saturday 4:30-5:30pm. The handmade Margherita or Pepperoni pizzas are free, but must be ordered on Friday by messaging 07791 301672.

Slung Low present ‘heartfelt’ by gobsecure, a new solo theatre show all about hearts & heartlessness. Saturday 7:30pm, book at www.slunglow.org/shows

If you fancy having a flutter in a good cause Beeston St Anthony’s FC are holding a Race Night at the confusingly named Holbeck Bowling Club on St Anthony’s Road in Beeston. The bars open till late and the first race is at 8pm.

Leeds Dads’ free Stay and Play, 2-4pm on Sunday at The Holbeck Club, Jenkinson Lawn, LS11 9QX. You can’t beat a good chat as the kids go wild with lego, toys, & Christmas Crafts. Samosas, fruit and tea are on tap. Make a new dad pal!  Go to leedsdads.org/events to book.

Monday sees the first meeting of a new residents group for Beeston Hill at Building Blocks nursery, Maud Avenue from 6-7pm.

A new Men’s Chess and Board Game social evening has started at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library every Tuesday 4:30-6pm. Organised by Your Space Leeds.

Your Space are also behind Toastie Tuesdays at St Matthew’s Community Centre in Holbeck. Come into the warmth, have a free toastie and hot drink and meet new friends, every Tuesday 4:30-6:30pm. Booking is essential via Bella on 07867 268 934.

There are crafting sessions at Old Chapel Music Studios, Czar Street, Holbeck. Get creative, make some Christmas gifts, plant some bulbs. All free, refreshments provided. All welcome. Every Wednesday and Friday 1-3pm. Call or text 07521 359437, email: darlingbudsofcraft@gmail.com

And finally, it’s the time of year to switch on Christmas Lights. The Belle Isle Lights will be switched on at 4pm on Wednesday at Belle Isle Circus; Hunslet Carr, outside the Bay Horse pub on Thursday at 5-5:30pm; and Beeston outside Nisa on Town Street Thursday 6-6:15pm. Full details here.
