Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. Please note that our online What’s On calendar here is currently out of action
We start this week at Hunslet Community Hub and Library which host two events on Saturday, both at 11am. Firstly, as we reported two Rolls of Honour from former clubs in Stourton will be unveiled. The second event is the Family Film Club, book your free ticket here.
Meanwhile Leeds Dads’ free soft play session runs 10am-12pm at Little Angels Playzone, off Dewsbury Road near the Tommy Wass pub. Free play, tea and toast for dads and their pre-school children.
This weekend The Tetley, Hunslet’s own art gallery, is holding a Makers’ Market. Running 10am-5pm on Saturday and 10am-4pm on Sunday, the market features over 25 independent makers and artists’ stalls plus Cyanotype Printing and bauble making workshops.
Middleton Park Baptist Church are having a Celebrating Our Heroes all-age fun event on Saturday, 1-4pm. Free light refreshments, all age craft, games and activities, a free teacup tombola and old time dance slot. Middleton Elderly Aid will also be exhibiting an art display at this event and there will be a remembrance display and prayer area. The event is free but any donations will be shared between Middleton Elderly Aid and Help the Heroes.

Leeds City Council are recruiting and there’s a Jobs Fair to find Assistant Charge Hand Driver at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library on Monday from 11am-3pm.
The newly formed Greenmounts and Surrounding Area Tenants and Residents Association hold their monthly meeting on Monday at 6:30pm at the United Free Church on Malvern Road, Beeston.
There are three chances to drop in and chat to your local PCSOs about any policing issues or concerns you have this week. They will be at Hunslet Community Hub & Library on Tuesday, Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library on Wednesday and Beeston Community Hub & Library on Thursday. 10am-12pm each day.
Learn about digital skills for life and work at this drop-in session (no need to book) at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library on Wednesday, 10am-2pm. Information on training , apprenticeships and digital skills; support to search for jobs; learn practical IT skills to help with budgeting, getting online and staying connected. This event is part of Leeds City College’s Festival of Learning.
Leeds Baby Bank will be at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library on Thursday 10am-12pm offering support to people to access support services, community activity and longer-term support. They also gift families an essential top-up of items like nappies, wipes, formula and toiletries.
St Luke’s Tenants & Residents Association meets on Thursday at 6:30pm at St Luke’s Church on Malvern Road in Beeston
The good people of Hunslet will be switching on their Christmas Lights on Friday at 6:30pm on Church Street.
And finally, if you missed getting to Munich for Oktoberfest, don’t worry The Holbeck have you covered. They are staging Holbeckfest on Friday from 7:30pm. Tickets are £5 from the club or via Facebook and they’re selling fast. There will be authentic German food from the German sausage Stall to complement the German beers and live music will be provided by the Yorkshire Oompahs.
