
Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds.
We start this week in Beeston where Leeds Dads will be holding another free Soft Play session, 10am-12pm on Saturday morning at Little Angels behind the Tommy Wass pub, LS11 7HL. This for dads and pre-school children and there’s free tea and toast! Book: leedsdads.org/events
Also on Saturday the Middleton Pop Up Market is back. You’ll find lots of lovely handmade items including clothing, jewelery, soaps and food; all made by local people at Middleton Park Circus from 10am-2pm.
Over in Belle Isle Trinity Network host their Community Reflections Café on Saturday 10am-12pm at the United reformed Church, Nesfield Avenue, Belle Isle, LS10 3LG
Fixing is a one man’s show at Slung Low’s Warehouse in Holbeck. Matt and his drag alter-ego Natalie Spanners will try to ask, in an increasingly broken world, how might we repair ourselves, together? Satuday, 7:30pm, pay-what you-decide. Tickets at www.slunglow.org/shows
The Still Sunday Yoga Session takes place at St Matthew’s community centre in Holbeck (LS11 9NR) from 10-11am. The gentle yoga session will include breathing techniques, guided meditation, gentle movements and relaxation. It’s brought to you by Holbeck Together and Being You Leeds. Join Better Beeston for a community litter pick. Meet on Lady Pit Lane at the junction with Stratford Street at 1pm, equipment provided.
Hunslet RLFC face Newcastle Thunder in the Championship on Sunday at South Leeds Stadium, LS11 5DJ. Kick off is at 3pm, tickets from: hunsletrflc.ticketco.events. Kids under 16 are free and if they are wearing their community club shirt, accompanying adults pay just £5.
The South Leeds Community Kitchen will be cooking up a free meal on Sunday, 4-5:45pm, at St Mary’s Church, Town Street, Beeston (opposite Nisa).
Leeds Knights take on the Milton Keynes Lightning in the NIHL National play-offs on Sunday afternoon. The ice hockey match faces off at 4:15pm at Planet Ice on Elland Road.
On Tuesday evening the Church of England diocese has organised a meeting to reveal plans to sell St Mary’s Spire and adjoining land in Hunslet. The meeting will take place in the former vicarage, Church Street, LS10 2QY, starting at 6pm.
Leeds Baby Bank will be at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library on Thursday 10am-12pm offering support to people to access support services, community activity and longer-term support. They also gift families an essential top-up of items like nappies, wipes, formula and toiletries.
Leeds libraries are marking the National Year of Reading, a UK-wide campaign designed to inspire more people to make reading a regular part of their lives. Amongst the many activities are two Lego events on Thursday from 10:30-11:30am at Beeston Library (LS11 8PN) and then from 1-2pm at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library (LS11 6PF).
Also on Thursday, Tennis classes kick off in Cross Flatts Park with free taster sessions. Separate age group sessions run between 4:30-7:30pm, full details and booking at: clubspark.lta.org.uk/crossflattspark/EventsV2
There is a Police Contact Point at Cottingley Community Centre on Friday, 10am-12pm. This is a chance to raise concerns or ask questions of the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team in an informal setting.
And finally, Insight mental health peer support group have teamed up with Men’s Health Unlocked to stage the Boosting Confidence Together networking event. There will be local acts performing, services from around Leeds showcasing how they can help you and even some light snacks. It all takes place on Friday at the Involve Centre in Hunslet (LS10 2QE) from 12-3pm.
