What’s On Roundup 1–7 March 2024

Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.

We start this week with Leeds Dads who will be holding a free Soft Play session, 10am-12pm on Saturday morning at Little Angels behind the Tommy Wass pub, LS11 7HL. This for dads and pre-school children and there’s free tea and toast! Then on Sunday the group have organised a walk in Middleton Park, meeting at 10:45am at the Visitor Centre by the lake. Volunteers will be meeting at 10am on Saturday at Hunslet Cemetery, Middleton Road, to carry out various tidying up activities. New people are always welcome and equipment is provided.

The Church of the Nazarene host a coffee morning with affordable breakfast on Saturday morning, 10am-12pm. Lupton Street, Hunslet, LS10 2QR.

Leeds United are at home to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, kicking off at 12:30pm. You can expect the usual heavy traffic and parking issues around Beeston, Holbeck and Cottingley before and after the match.

St Peter’s Church in Belle Isle are holding a jumble sale on Saturday afternoon from 1-3pm, admission is just 20p.

It’s the Friends of Middleton Park’s monthly litter pick on Sunday. Meet at the Visitor Centre by the lake at 1pm. Equipment will be provided, but wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather.

Hunslet RLFC entertain Widnes Vikings in the 1895 Cup on Sunday afternoon. Kick off is at 3pm at South Leeds Stadium, Middleton Grove, LS11 5DJ. Tickets from hunsletrlfc.com, kids under 16 go free.

At 4pm on Sunday there will be a special Thanksgiving service at St Cross Church in Middleton (LS10 4HT) to celebrate the church’s 90th anniversary. Past vicars will be attending and taking part in this service. Everybody welcome.

Also on Sunday the Leeds Knights take on the Bristol Pitbulls. The ice hockey match faces off at 5:15pm at Planet Ice on Elland Road.

As it’s the first week of March there are a number of residents meetings taking place, starting with Middleton Community Group which meets on Monday, 6-7pm, at the Middleton Elderly Aid Social Centre, Acre Road, LS10 4LF.

Also on Monday, the Greenmounts & Surrounding Area Tenants & Residents Association meets at 6:30pm at Rowland Road Working Men’s Club, LS11 6ED.

Stronger Together is a peer support group for parents, guardians and adult carers of children and young people under 25 living with disabilities. It‘s holding its monthly meeting at BITMO’s GATE, Aberfield Gate, Belle Isle, LS10 3QH on Tuesday, 11am-1pm.

The Middleton Life History Group meets on Wednesday at 10am at the United Reformed Church, Nesfield Road, Belle Isle, LS10 3LG.

Trinity Network have two special events on this week. On Tuesday they are celebrating Shrove Tuesday with free pancakes. Then on Wednesday they are marking The Oscars from 11am with a special buffet lunch.

On Wednesday our local councillors will be meeting as the Inner South Community Committee. The meeting is open to the public and includes an Open Forum where antone can ask questions or raise issues directly with the councillors. The meeting is being held at the Aspiring Communities centre 49 Barkly Road, Beeston, LS11 7EN.

On Wednesday morning Middleton Elderly Aid are holding a Cancer Awareness session from 9:30-11:30am at their social centre on Acre Road, LS10 4JQ.

The Leeds Stoma Support group are holding a get together on Wednesday at the White Rose Shopping Centre management suite (near the food court) from 5-7pm. This is open to anyone with a Colostomy, Ileostomy or Urostomy, partners and carers. It’s a chance to meet others and there will e Stoma Nurse present as well as suppliers.

Hunslet Carr Residents Association meets on Thursday, 6:30pm, at Woodhouse Hill Community Centre, LS10 2EF

Also on Thursday, Beeston Community Forum meets at 7:30pm at Beeston Village Community Centre, off Town Street, LS11 8DQ.

On Friday morning Middleton Elderly Aid host their monthly legal advice session from 9:30-11am at their social centre on Acre Road, LS10 4JQ.

And finally, we will be distributing our March newspaper to 200 pick up points around LS10 and LS11 from Wednesday onwards so watch out for a copy.
