United Together appeal to raise thousands of Leeds’ most vulnerable

Holbeck Together and Leeds United team up to launch ‘United Together’ charity appeal

Calling on fans and the people of Leeds to donate just £1 to the cause

South Leeds, not-for-profit organisation, Holbeck Together has joined forces with Leeds United to launch an appeal with the aim of raising vital funds to support the most vulnerable people in the city following the outbreak of Covid-19.

The appeal is asking people to donate just £1 to the cause to help Holbeck Together deliver vital support and advice, virtual befriending services, at-home activities programmes for those who cannot access the internet, hot meals delivered to people’s doors and essential items to those who need it most in and around the Holbeck area.

Leeds United are supporting the campaign by calling on its fans and the wider community to donate just £1 to help achieve the target. The club will promote the appeal on the official LUFC website, on social media and to its full support base in the hope that people will show support to the local cause.

Following the outbreak Holbeck Together has experienced a significant rise in the amount of people who now require its support and services to survive. At its office in the heart Holbeck, which sits in the shadows of Elland Road, the staff and volunteers have been inundated with requests for help and without additional support they will struggle to deliver vital care into a community which needs it more than ever.

Elissa Newman, Chief Officer at Holbeck Together said,

“We are facing an unprecedented crisis and the number of requests for our services continues to rise. To ensure that we operate safely in these critical times we are adapting our services to support new social distancing guidelines. This means we need extra support in terms of volunteers, man-power and funds to deliver critical services for the most vulnerable people living in Leeds.

“We’ve had fantastic support so far from local people and businesses, but as this crisis continues we need more help. We hope our small ask of just £1 sits comfortably with people and that we hope that we can raise as much money as possible to support those most in need at this time.

“I am overwhelmed by the compassion of Angus and the team at Leeds United. The support they are providing to their local community will enable Holbeck Together to continue to meet the increased demand for additional front-line social care. It can only be a collective effort that will enable us to meet the challenges of the Covid-19 crisis and the ongoing support of Leeds United makes a big difference.”

Commenting on the appeal, CEO at Leeds United, Angus Kinnear said:

“It is so important that during this time we really pull together and help those that have been severely impacted by the coronavirus outbreak and that is exactly what this campaign is all about

“If anyone who is able to can help to support Holbeck Together then together we will be able to keep food on people’s tables and look after those who are most vulnerable and high risk and may be unable to leave their homes for a long period of time. Remember to stay home and help to save lives.”
