The Skate Scholarship is a non-profit Community Interest Company working with young people and families from Leeds City Region and beyond, who are struggling to access sport, leisure and play activities due to different barriers.
As skaters ourselves, we noticed that the pandemic led to a big boom in roller skating, with many young people wanting to learn. We know how expensive skating can be – and that for many young people the sport is still inaccessible due to cost and other barriers.
South Leeds has some of the highest child poverty rates in England. We know Rollerskating can’t change the world, but it can make someone’s world a little nicer. By running and enabling access to fun, affordable, engaging and safe skating activities, we hope to inspire people to become more active and improve mental and physical well-being.
Our next scheduled lessons are starting soon at the South Leeds Hub, Middleton Road, Belle Isle, LS10 3JA – every Thursday at 6pm starting 17 September 2026. No need to have your own skates we bring the equipment. Please see below on how to book… make sure you add your skate size!

South Leeds Life is published by a not-for-profit social enterprise. We keep our costs as low as possible but we’ve been hit by increases in the print costs for our monthly newspaper which have doubled in the last two years.
