The Hunslet Club was named Sustainability Champion of the Year at the Leeds Sports Awards 2026.
The awards, organised by Sport Leeds, celebrate the very best of sport across the city and recognise the individuals, clubs and organisations making a positive impact through sport and physical activity across Leeds.
The Hunslet Club received the award in recognition of its Eco Gym & Fitness Suite and its commitment to sustainability, community wellbeing and creating a healthier future for young people and local residents.
The Eco Gym & Fitness Suite was developed to combine fitness with environmental responsibility, featuring energy-generating gym equipment that helps promote sustainable practices while encouraging people to live active and healthy lifestyles.
The gym also provides affordable access to fitness for the local community, with memberships available from just £10 per month. Senior Youth Club members are also able to access free gym sessions during the club’s free youth club provision on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, helping young people stay active in a safe and positive environment.
Energy generated through the gym equipment is fed back into the grid to help support the running costs of The Hunslet Club, allowing the organisation to continue investing in opportunities and services for young people and families across the community.
As one of Leeds’ leading youth organisations, The Hunslet Club supports thousands of young people and families every year through sport, youth work and community programmes. Sustainability continues to play an important role in the organisation’s future vision and development.
Dennis Robbins, Chief Executive Officer of The Hunslet Club, said:
“We are incredibly proud to receive the Sustainability Champion of the Year award at the Leeds Sports Awards 2026. This recognition reflects the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in developing the Eco Gym & Fitness Suite and our wider commitment to sustainability within the community.”
The Hunslet Club would like to thank its staff, volunteers, partners, members and supporters who have helped make the project a success and continue to support the organisation’s work across Leeds.
