Wild leaf salad with a fruit vinaigrette dressing, accompanied by home baked nettle seed bread and followed by elderberry and almond tart anybody?
This Saturday (20 September 2014) Craig Worrall of Edible Leeds will be leading a Wild Food Walk around Skelton Grange Environment Centre’s beautiful wildlife area. Berries & nuts should be plentiful, along with some fungi and other plants of great culinary interest… You will get to learn so much about the opportunities that nature offers us for free, see wild cooking demonstrations and enjoy a wealth of natural gourmet food! Craig will pre-prepare some delicious food items to share with you as well as the foragings from the event, and has promised to bring in a selection of homemade jams, jellies, pickles and drinks. The event will be from 12-4pm and include time for food and socialising.
There will be more tasty fun at when Craig returns for a Fungal Foray on Sunday 19 October, and Skelton Grange’s popular Big Green Weekend Open Day on Saturday 4 October will have local honey, jams, beer, homemade cakes, and dragon fired oven pizzas available, in amongst all the bushcraft food demonstrations and family friendly fun and games.
Thousands of children and adults from Leeds have already benefited from spending time outdoors at Skelton Grange Environment Centre, thanks to funding from the Big Lottery and National Grid. Run by the charity The Conservation Volunteers, access2nature is a five year project working to improve the life prospects and wellbeing of people in Leeds, by providing a range of social, learning and volunteering opportunities in the natural environment.
