South Leeds Links: Belle Isle cannabis farm, elected mayor and Middleton Park

Here’s your weekly round-up of what’s been making South Leeds tick.

The issue of Leeds voting for an elected mayor on Thursday is proving a real hot topic. Check the reports out at the Guardian Northerner blog and Leeds Online. Beeston blogger Phil Kirby also offers his take on things in the Culture Vulture blog.

Bike bandits with a head for heights scaled a skateboard park roof, smashed a skylight and hammered down a store wall to steal BMX cycles, parts and clothing worth thousands of pounds in Hunslet, reports the YEP. The paper also reports on the closure of a Beeston Hill church due to dwindling attendances.

PCSO Kirsty Johnson is holding monthly surgeries in Beeston Library. PCSOs Johnny Wilson and Dave Lythe have visited Beeston-based Open Space – an organisation for people with hearing difficulties.

Police also attended a New Forest Village/Heritage Village community meeting in Middleton – read the report here. They’ve also raided a Belle Isle cannabis farm.
