Refurbished Middleton Leisure Centre re-opens

Middleton Leisure Centre has undergone a major refurbishment and is now open for business again.

The centre’s swimming pool was closed in September 2011 as part of the Council’s review of sports facilities around the city. Funding was found from moneys paid by developers as part of planning conditions and from Sport England to refurbish the rest of the site. The facilities now comprise:

  • Sports Hall
  • Dance studio
  • Under 8s soft play gym
  • Squash Court
  • Meeting room

Outside there is a multi-use five-a-side and basketball court and a full size, floodlit, state-of-the-art artificial grass (3G) football pitch as well as three senior grass pitches, one junior grass pitch and six changing rooms. The 3G pitch has funded by a grant from the Football Foundation which receives money from the Premier League, the FA and the government.

Middleton Park Councillors Kim Groves, Judith Blake and Paul Truswell said:

“Sport is a passion in our area, so we’re delighted to have secured this invaluable partnership with a major national body like the Football Foundation. The 3G pitch the Foundation has so generously funded is really the icing on the cake. It’s a fantastic addition to the Council’s extensive refurbishment of existing pitches and revamping of Middleton Leisure Centre.”

The centre is open seven days a week and has programmes of Gymnastics and Gym-Mini classes as well as Combat Conditioning, Core, Pilates, Zumba and Bootcamp.

A summer programme of sports activities will be running throughout the school holidays and you can download the programme here: Middleton LC summer 13

  1. A lot of people I know in Middleton are not happy that the swimming pool was closed a couple of years ago. At least some of the facilities &amp new ones have come back.
