Pensioner completes wing walk for South Leeds charity

Pensioner Kathi Rakhshan has completed another high flying wing walk to raise money for Middleton Park Equestrian Centre (MPEC) riding for the disabled.

Kathi is 72 and has had two hip replacements, but has always been an adventurous type.

Suffering from arthritis put a brake on her adventures, but in 2021 she had her first hip replacement and went to MPEC:

“Thinking they might just laugh at me, but no, they got me on a horse, without a hoist but using the ramp and I was riding again! Not competently or elegantly, but compensating with enthusiasm and persistence.”

Following a second hip replacement Kathi completed her first wing walk. She works as a volunteer one day a week and has seen how much MPEC does for the disabled children and adults, as well as for able-bodied riders.

“Some of the young riders just come alive when they get on a horse and it is a joy and privilege to see and be part of it all. I think I now have earned a GNVQ in tack cleaning as well!”
