Open day for St Luke’s new Community Hub

On Saturday 13 November St Luke’s Church, on Malvern Road, Beeston Hill, is officially opening the doors to their brand new Community Hub, at an activity-packed Community Open Day from 12–5:30pm … and everyone’s invited!

Back in July 2019 the St Luke’s Church congregation moved out and the builders moved in. Construction work on the extension and completely new internal layout continued for a year, until the updated facilities were finally ready in August 2020. Since Covid restrictions lifted, the St Luke’s congregation have been able to resume worshipping there and many local community groups have already been regularly using the beautifully rejuvinated building.

Unfortunately Covid restrictions postponed the celebrations, but now everyone is invited to come in and look around this fantastic, fresh new community space, which includes a large function hall, comfortable meeting rooms, a computer suite, rentable office spaces, a fully equipped catering kitchen and modern accessible toilet facilities.

Vicar of St Luke’s Church, Alistair Kaye said:

“After two years of community consultation, a year of building work and through the incredible generosity of local people, the church family and national funders, we are now opening the St Luke’s Holbeck Community Hub. We hope and pray that for years to come it will be the perfect base for local charities and projects to do life changing and transformational work in our wonderful, diverse inner-city community.”

The Community Open Day on 13 November starts at 12pm with welcome refreshments and a buffet. Hilary Benn MP will cut the ribbon at an official opening ceremony at 1:30pm, then many of the partner community groups who already use the building will be running activities throughout the afternoon. You can also expect food, music, dance demos, plus lots of fun and games for kids. Stay on into the early evening for freshly cooked pizzas and to enjoy the tea-time Talent Show!

Emma Mann, Building Manager of St Luke’s Church and Community Hub said:

“We are looking forward to being able to welcome our community into this amazing Community Hub. It’s a day that will be filled with lots of fun for all the family, these last 20 months have been hard for us all and our hope is to bring joy to everyone.”

Whether you want to just pop in and look around, or stay all afternoon there’ll be a warm welcome for everyone.
