Belle Isle Tenant Management Organisation (BITMO) has won a national award for its Community Fund, which provides support for Belle Isle tenants with the cost of living as well as funding environmental improvements.
It is just one of many ways BITMO is able to go over and above the support provided to other Leeds council tenants.
The National Federation of Tenant Management Organisations, which represents more than 100 TMOs across England & Wales, gave BITMO the Community Project of the Year award.
The Community Fund can pay for household goods like fridges, cookers, furniture or rugs for BITMO tenants, support training and education courses for anyone in a BITMO household and provide new school uniform. It also supports small environmental improvements which have support from the local community, and pays for English and Maths tutors for weekly sessions held for primary school pupils at BITMO’s GATE.
BITMO Chief Executive Deborah Kelly said
“BITMO is run by a Board of Belle Isle tenants. They understand better than anyone the problems so many Belle Isle tenants have with the cost of living. The Board set up the Community Fund as a way of targeting help to those who most need it. It’s great to see their vision getting recognition at a national level”.
