Middleton community comes together for Carson

The community in Middleton is rallying round the family of 6 year old Carson Pratt who has suffered a brain tumour. A fundraising day has been organised to support the family as Carson goes through further treatment to tackle the cancer.

Carson’s symptoms started on Christmas Eve when he complained that his head hurt, but it took Mum, Stacey, three weeks to convince doctors that this wasn’t just a headache or a bad migraine, it was more serious.

Eventually they discovered the tumour and moved quickly. Carson had surgery to remove in within 48 hours.

Unfortunately, he needs further treatment which will require a six week stay either in Manchester or Germany. Whilst the treatment will be free, the family face the costs of living away from home and keeping their home in Middleton going and their other children fed and cared for. All this at a time when self-employed dad Arron can’t work.

Hearing about the case from Carson’s cousin who plays football with Middleton Park FC under 7s, coach Mark Massey suggested the club should do something to help. Wayne Dixon from the club takes up the story:

“The Leeds Corinthians were more than happy to offer us their facilities which is great, even Middleton Leisure Centre have offered use of their facilities – it’s been a real community effort which makes me proud of being from LS10.”

The fundraising day will be held on Sunday 27 February 2022 from 9am-4pm. There will be chance to watch the Middleton Park FC junior teams playing their home fixtures as well as lots of stalls, raffles and tombolas, a tuck shop and the Corinthians’ bar will be open.

Local businesses have already stepped in with donations and raffles and football cards are already taking place on Carson’s Facebook Page. More donations of raffle prizes will be gratefully received.

Stacey commented:

“The clubs have been amazing, it’s unbelievable what they’ve done in such a short time. The way the community has come together to help Carson is just incredible. I can’t thank everyone enough.”
