Leeds City Council is moving towards all households being on a fortnightly green bin collection.
Those households affected by the changes include the Manor Farms in Belle Isle which are currently on weekly black bin and monthly green bin collections. The change to green bin collections will be made after Easter, but black bin collections will remain weekly. You can check your bin day on the council’s website here, or download the Leeds Bins app to your phone.
In a statement to Ward Councillors, John Woolmer the head of environmental services said:
Following the successful introduction of glass to the green bin last year, we continue to look at ways to improve household recycling in Leeds.
The next phase of the refuse collection route review will focus on those areas/streets who missed out on the introduction of alternate week collections last decade and therefore are mostly still just getting a monthly/4-weekly green bin collection, together with a weekly black bin collection. These are areas where consultation at the time reached an agreed view that introducing alternate week collections (which would mean black bins being collection every 2 weeks rather than every week) would not work in these streets.
I am pleased to let you know we are now in a position to increase the green bin collection frequency for all these households; so that for the first time, every household in Leeds will have at least a fortnightly green bin collection.
In terms of properties in your ward, you can find a map below of the streets that will be getting a more frequent green bin collection.
These improvements will mean that residents there will start to receive a fortnightly collection of their green bin/bag. To reiterate, these changes will only affect the green recycling bin, black bins will remain un-changed and collected weekly.
A letter informing residents about these improvements, and their new collection day/date, will be sent via Royal Mail in early April. The new green bin collection frequency will start after Easter. I hope this is helpful to you.
