For the third year running, Year 4 pupils from local primary schools in Middleton have taken part in a handwriting competition. The competition, organised by Pat Benatmane on behalf of The Friends of Middleton Park, has 217 entries this year from 5 local primary schools.
Judging has now taken place and all entries will be on show at The Great Middleton Park Show on Sunday 13 September in the park. Prizes have been sponsored by Hunslet RLFC and have been sent out to the schools, along with certificates. Each entrant will also receive a special voucher to attend a Hunslet RLFC match.
Apart from each class receiving prizes, there was an overall winner from all 217 entries – only the standard was so high that this year there are two overall winners. One is a pupil at Clapgate Primary, and one at Sharp Lane Primary. The two 9yr olds will receive an extra prize, presented to them at the show on 13 September by the Lord Mayor and a rugby league player from Hunslet RLFC’s present squad.
