The Hunslet Rugby Academy has launched a brand-new programme in partnership with Leeds City College, marking the first time the two organisations have worked together in this way.
Created to help young players grow both on and off the field, the academy gives students the opportunity to experience an academy environment, be coached by experienced staff and take the next step in their rugby journey while continuing their education.
Open to players who attend or have enrolled with Leeds City College, the programme has been designed to help young athletes build confidence, improve fitness and develop their rugby skills in a welcoming and supportive environment.
Led by Head Coach Josh Perkins, sessions will focus on helping players develop their skills, confidence and understanding of the game in a positive setting where everyone can learn, improve and progress together. Training will also support players in developing game awareness, teamwork and key rugby fundamentals to help improve overall performance on the field.
Players will also have access to The Hunslet Club’s Eco Gym for strength and conditioning sessions and general training, as well as the wrestle room and changing facilities as part of their academy experience.
The academy has already held a number of trials, giving players the chance to get to know each other, settle into the environment and gain valuable practice ahead of the programme starting. Trials are still open for players wanting to get involved and become part of The Hunslet Rugby Academy’s very first year.
Josh Perkins said:
“It’s been brilliant to see the players coming together already and building confidence with each session. We want to create an environment where young people feel welcome, enjoy themselves and develop both on and off the field. The trials so far have been really positive, and we’re excited to welcome even more players into the academy.”
This exciting new partnership is all about creating opportunities, building friendships and helping young people reach their potential with the support of experienced coaches and great facilities behind them.
