South Leeds’ summer events season burst into life on Saturday (13 June 2026) with a brilliant Hunslet Festival. The Grove Road/Church Street field was packed with activities, colour and excited visitors, creating a fantastic atmosphere from start to finish.
The festival was officially opened by local MP Hilary Benn and the newly appointed Lord Mayor of Leeds, Cllr Stephen Holroyd. During the opening ceremony, they paid warm tribute to Pam Clark following her recent decision to step down from the organising committee. Pam is a much‑loved figure in Hunslet, known for her decades of dedication to Rainbows, Brownies and Guides, as well as more than 20 years of tireless service to the Hunslet Gala/Festival. Her commitment, wisdom and encouragement have been invaluable as the current committee has settled into this new chapter. Thank you, Pam — you will be missed.
This year’s festival delivered a packed programme of free activities for families, including:
• Inflatables from Happy Bouncers • Climbing wall with Herd Farm • Circus skills workshops from Rapide Entertainment • Animal encounters with Purple Pig Farm • Interactive arts and play with Yorkshire Contemporary • A special hands‑on display from the Royal Armouries • Free bike repairs from The Big Bike Fix • Youth Bus and activities from Leeds Youth Service • Police van and kit try‑on with West Yorkshire Police • Fire engine visit from Hunslet Fire Station • Skateboarding and scootering with LSTEN • Roller skating with Skate Scholarship • Rugby with Hunslet RLFC • Cricket with Yorkshire Cricket • A full schedule of performances in the Arena
The market area was buzzing too, with stalls from local businesses and community groups adding to the lively atmosphere.
We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed to making the day such a success – especially to Hunslet St Mary’s Primary School for the generous use of their playground.
