Staff, pupils, and families at Hunslet Carr Primary School are celebrating following the publication today (14 July 2026) of an Ofsted inspection which took place on 2 June. Under the new report card system, the school achieved the ‘Expected Standard’ across all evaluated categories, with personal development and wellbeing reaching ‘Strong Standard’ as indicated by the green report card.
The report highlights consistently high-quality education and a thriving, inclusive community at Hunslet Carr Primary School, which serves 350 pupils in Hunslet.
As well as the Strong Standard Personal for development and wellbeing, the school achieved the Expected standard for behaviour and attendance, curriculum and teaching, inclusion, leadership and governance, achievement, and early years. In addition safeguarding standards were confirmed to be met.

In lessons, pupils engage with one another with respect and collaborate enthusiastically. At social times, the atmosphere is warm and inclusive. Pupils are “polite and welcoming,” demonstrating good manners toward classmates. Discrimination is rare, and staff respond swiftly when it occurs.
Under Ofsted’s new framework, personal development and wellbeing achieved ‘Strong Standard’, recognising that leaders provide a wide range of opportunities supporting pupils’ character and self-belief. The school’s pastoral team offers consistent support, with lunchtime nurture programmes helping pupils feel safe. All pupils participate in extracurricular activities to develop their interests and talents. Outdoor learning at the school’s allotment enriches experiences, alongside residential trips and visits to Parliament.
Curriculum and leadership
The curriculum is broad and well-organised, with reading, writing, and communication at its forefront. All classes read, discuss, and write together daily. Many pupils start with language gaps; pupils speak about their learning with confidence and depth.
Leadership and governance were praised for their commitment to the school community. Leaders are highly visible and available to speak with parents and pupils at the gate daily. Staff are proud to work at the school and speak warmly about leaders who support their wellbeing.
