The girls’ section at Hunslet ARLFC, the rugby section of The Hunslet Club, is growing rapidly, with three new girls’ teams getting ready to launch next season.
We’re looking for girls to get involved in our U9, U11 and U14 teams, as well as a new training session for U16s.
Leading the way is Sinead Peach, current captain of Women’s Super League Champions York Valkyrie, who is helping to inspire the next generation of young rugby players through her involvement with the Club.
Sinead said: “It’s an exciting time for Hunslet ARLFC. I grew up watching my dad and uncle play and all the boys in my family. I’m here to pave the way. On the first training session we had 3 girls attend and now we have 3 full teams and a handful of u16 girls training on the brink of forming another team. These girls are here and willing and if they have the opportunity to play, they will. I can’t wait to see where we are at this time next year.”
The growth is part of The Hunslet Club’s wider mission to bridge the gap between girls and boys in sport, creating more opportunities for girls to get involved, develop their skills and enjoy being part of a team.
The Club is also investing in facilities to support the growing number of girls taking part in sport. A new 3G pitch at The Hunslet Club, partly funded through the Football Foundation’s Lionesses Futures Fund, is providing a high-quality space for young people to train and play.
The Club’s girls’ teams will have access to the new pitch, helping to create even more opportunities for girls to play, train and develop their skills.
