Hannah brings the Lord Mayor to assembly

On Friday morning (4 December 2015) Hunslet Moor Primary school in Beeston prepared for a assembly unlike any other. The Lord Mayor of Leeds Cllr Judith Chapman was visiting to mark the success of one of its pupils on becoming the new Children’s Lord Mayor of Leeds – Hannah Begum.

That day the children were wearing decorated bobble hats to raise money for NSPCC. Bobbled heads turned as they watched Cllr Judith Chapman follow Hannah as she weaved in and out of little legs in her red coat hat and gloves. They both settled together on the stage and Hannah read out her manifesto once more.

Cllr Judith Chapham congratulated Hannah on her new position and said how impressed she was on the clarity of her manifesto and emphasised the importance of having the opportunity to make a difference.

Once the children were settled in their classes Hannah took Cllr Judith Chapman for a tour of the school. After which we went into the family room for juice and a cup of tea. Hannah and Cllr Judith Chapman looked at home chatting about hobbies and interests. We learnt that Hannah loves cooking and has promised to make her a lemon drizzle cake!

Hannah’s public engagements will begin in January next year.
