Dates for free workshops have just been announced by Slung Low for Flying High: Creating Flags of Awe & Wonder.
This is a very special flag-making project for our times, which visually and colourfully captures and celebrates all that is AWE-some and WONDER-full about our Holbeck & South Leeds communities!
Flying High: Creating Flags of Awe & Wonder was introduced in last month’s edition of South Leeds Life, and now further workshop dates coming up in June are available to book on Slung Low’s website.
With world leading outdoor arts organisation Kinetika, Slung Low will be inviting participants to bring their collective attention to everyday sources of awe and wonder, and to record the things they find awe-some and wonder-full around them, whether that’s by taking a photograph, writing some words, or a making a drawing, collage or sketch.
Working alongside locally-based artists as well as with Ali Pretty, lead artist and founder of Kinetika, the images and words created by workshop participants will be hand-painted onto silk pennant flags, using batik techniques. Don’t worry if you’ve never done anything like this before: no experience necessary!
These free creative workshop sessions are open to adults from across South Leeds.
Flag Design Workshops will be held on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 June, 1-3pm and 6-8pm.
Flag Painting & Batik Skills Workshops will be held at various times from Thursday 25 – Sunday 28 June.
