Feline groovy for music charity fundraiser

Holbeck-based music and well-being charity, Cloth Cat, are organising their annual fundraiser ‘Hair Of The Dog’ at legendary music venue, The Brudenell Social Club, to raise money for their ‘Beat The Blues’ and ‘Cloth Cat Broadcasts’ community radio projects.

This will be a chance to see some of the cream of Leeds’ upbeat musical talent at one of the area’s best loved live music venues and includes the “fabulously funky” Brand New Bag and ska punk reggae from the “very danceable” Skiprat.

Cloth Cat aims to improve the mental health and well-being of people around the city using the power of music by running courses, projects and events. The ‘Beat the Blues’ project provides support for in-patients in Leeds NHS mental health facilities with an ongoing series of musical workshops such as song writing, DJ skills, singing & playing together, interactive musical performances and a pathway to community based musical activities after hospital.

Cloth Cat Broadcasts is an inclusive podcast based radio station giving local people the chance to learn all the aspects of the media as well as giving a voice to the community, celebrating the successes of the area and providing entertainment.

Cloth Cat also runs free music sessions in Holbeck for young people aged 11-18, where they can learn skills, develop confidence and make friends in a fun environment. Play keyboards, drums, singing, guitar and more. 10 week courses run during the school term on weekday early evenings. For more information or to sign up for January visit: www.clothcatleeds.org.uk

As Cloth Cat Manager, Shelly Johnson explains:

“Hair Of The Dog is always one of the highlights of our year, with some high energy local live bands that everyone can enjoy, gives us the opportunity to connect with a big audience, people coming from all over the city. Apart from being a brilliant night of music, it’s our one fundraiser of the year and we make sure every penny goes to where it is needed most. Grant funding has become more difficult to access and we want to ensure our projects continue to support those who are most vulnerable in Leeds”.

Due to the cost of living crisis, the charity has purposefully kept ticket prices low. Shelly continues:

“We know people have been really struggling and we want this event to be as inclusive as possible so everyone can have a really good affordable night out, and so we have kept entry at last year’s prices”

The ‘Hair Of The Dog’ will be held at The Brudenell Social Club on Saturday 4 January 2025. Doors open at 6pm and features the bands Brand New Bag, Skiprat, Drop Leg Steppers, Hinata and Gertie. Tickets can be bought in advance for £7.50 plus booking fee from www.ticketsource.co.uk/cloth-cat-studios-ltd or pay on the door for £10.

More information about Cloth Cat and their projects are on their website and can be found at www.clothcatleeds.org.uk or contact Cloth Cat by e-mail at enquiries@clothcatleeds.org.uk
