Developer launches public engagement on the future of Tetley HQ

Vastint UK, the developer behind Aire Park, the 24-acre mixed-use district on the site of the former Tetley’s Brewery in Hunslet, has announced the launch date for the public engagement on the future of The Tetley, with a drop-in event at the landmark building.

The session will take place on Monday 27 November 2023 from 4-7pm and will provide the first opportunity for people to see the developer’s vision for the former headquarters of Tetley’s Brewery.

The Tetley closed as an art gallery in October following the expiry of Project Space Leeds, the arts charity that ran the gallery, ten year lease.

The event will showcase how the building has evolved since its launch in 1931 and how Vastint UK’s plans will continue this evolution. It will include images of the new mixed-use proposals which will look to increase accessibility to the building and create a new destination for both locals and visitors to enjoy.

Attendees will be able to speak to members of Vastint’s planning team, as well as representatives from the architects Supervene, and planning consultants Stantec, who are supporting the developer on the proposals.

Simon Schofield, Head of Development North at Vastint UK, said:

“The Tetley is an iconic building within Leeds and we’re excited to finally be revealing our plans for its future. As custodians of this important piece of the city’s history, we have been working hard to look at not just how we preserve this beautiful building but continue its evolution and protect the vital role it plays as meeting place for the community, as we build towards its centenary.

“Our plans look to continue the building’s history, and as a long-term investor into Leeds we believe it’s important that we engage in a conversation with our neighbours about the future direction of The Tetley.”

The public engagement event is just one way interested parties can have their say on the current plans. Those unable to make the session can find out more information about the plans at airepark.co.uk, provide feedback on the plans via email to planningnorthern@stantec.com or freepost to: Freepost Vastint UK.

The deadline for comments is 22 December 2023. Vastint UK will officially submit its proposals to Leeds City Council in the new year.

  1. Do what they’ve done with all the rest of the decent buildings in Leeds, make them into student flats
