The Hunslet Club congratulates Colin Cooper, President of the Hunslet Club & Parkside Rugby Academy and Chair of Hunslet Parkside Rugby Club on Belle Isle Road for almost 40 years on collecting a Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual City of Leeds Rugby Celebration Dinner on Saturday 20th July 2013
78-year-old Colin spent more than a decade as a professional rugby league player at Hunslet and Bramley during the 1950s and 60s. His dedication to Parkside, alongside his wife Una, has seen it produce two Great Britain captains in Garry Schofield and Jason Robinson and around 300 professional players during his time there. Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post recently he said “The club has been my lifeblood, it’s kept me and Una alive. We have had something to look forward to and live for. We have never had the monetary reward, we have had the satisfaction – I take pride in what we’ve done.”
The community respect and admiration for all that Colin has achieved cannot be understated. The recently formed Hunslet Club & Parkside Rugby Academy is currently developing and growing with more sessions for children & young people and exciting plans for the future which everyone very much looks forward to taking forward.
I remember Colin Cooper when we played for the Hunslet Supporters club.
I first played for them when i first left school which was Bewerley Street.
Edgar Meeks was the headmaster then.
He was also the president of Hunslet Rugby League Club who played at Parkside.
WELL DONE COLIN.
