Church and Morrisons team up to battle Covid misery this Christmas

LoveWorld Leeds and Morrisons team up once again to lay on Christmas dinner for 150.

LoveWorld Leeds church in Cross Green has once again partnered with Morrisons supermarket in Hunslet to bring a message of hope and charity to the south Leeds community. At a time when many families are struggling to make ends meet, particularly due to the economic impact of the coronavirus situation, 150 Christmas dinner takeaways will be provided free to local families.

The initiative follows a successful free school meals campaign in October, which saw LoveWorld Leeds and Morrisons provide packed lunches to over 150 local families. The ongoing economic uncertainty compelled the LoveWorld Leeds community to act upon their Christian duty of selfless giving and spread some festive cheer.

Morrisons Hunslet Store Manager Victoria Clayton, and Community Champion Debbie Wren have been working with LoveWorld Leeds to organise the event. Morrisons will supply a selection of cooked meat, while LoveWorld members will prep and cook the carrots, parsnips and Brussels sprouts.

Morrisons Hunslet Store Manager, Victoria Clayton said:

“The work that LoveWorld Leeds continue to do for our community is so so heart-warming. I am immensely proud of how the team at Hunslet Morrisons are involved with supporting the continued kindness from Pastor Andrew Abraham and his team. I am delighted that we are able to play our part in feeding the nation by helping to provide food for our community this Christmas.”

LoveWorld Leeds provided a weekly food bank throughout the recent national lockdown, which included delivering food packages to those who were isolating, or otherwise unable to leave the house.

Pastor Andrew Abraham of Loveworld Leeds said:

“It’s the Love of Christ that is changing the world today and that is what we are spreading at this time through this initiative.”

The event will take place on Wednesday 23 December 2020 at LoveWorld Leeds, 27 Cross Green Lane, LS9 8LJ.

Meals will be available for collection between 1pm and 4pm. Meals will be prepared for 150 people, and must be pre-booked using the following link: bit.ly/LWLXmasD
