Breweries from across the globe descend on Holbeck

This weekend (16 & 17 November 2018) Northern Monk Brew Co are hosting their annual Dark City beer festival at their Holbeck home, The Old Flax Store. The weekend will host over 30 breweries, plus live music from 4 bands and a roster of local street food vendors.

Including Northern Monk themselves, a total of 31 breweries will be pouring a vast range of stouts, porters, barleywines, black IPAs and more at the Grade II listed mill, The Old Flax Store, part of the Marshall’s Mill complex. Three festival sessions will be running over the course of the 16 & 17 November, with all three floors plus the outside of the building being used for the event.

The attending breweries are as follows:

  • UK & IRE:  Verdant, Magic Rock, Buxton, Thornbridge, Old Chimneys, Siren, Hawkshead, North Brew Co, Left Handed Giant, Wylam, Kirkstall Brewery, Fyne Ales, Burning Sky, Wander Beyond, Cloudwater, Anspach & Hobday, Burnt Mill, Five Points, Boundary, Whiplash.
  • US:  J. Wakefield Brewing, Finback, Other Half, Evil Twin.
  • EU:  Omnipollo, Amundsen, Lervig, Dugges, Dry & Bitter, La Pirata.

The festival will feature live music from Graces, Nomasta, Barbarian Hermit and Sex Injuries, and food from five Leeds-based food vendors – Parm Star, Manjit’s Kitchen, Temple Donuts, Harewood Food & Drink Project and Maude Coffee. The festival will also be running one beer tasting at each session, with Beernomicon running Friday’s session, and Black Malt running both Saturday tastings.

Speaking about the festival, Founder of Northern Monk Brew Co, Russell Bisset, says:

‘We’re honoured to host some of the world’s best breweries at our Old Flax Store home. There are brewers flying over all the way from America to serve their beer alongside us, and we’re all really excited about introducing some of the biggest names in brewing to our Leeds community. Last year’s Dark City festival was a huge success, but we feel like all the parts are in place to make this year even better. We’re looking forward to spending the weekend with people that are as passionate about great beer as we are.”

Session times are as follows:

  • Friday 16 Nov: 5:30pm – 10:30pm
  • Saturday 17 Nov:  11.30am – 4.30pm
  • Saturday 17 Nov:  5:30pm – 10:30pm

Tickets cost £45 per session. This includes admission fee, a limited-edition glass and unlimited 120ml pours for the duration of the five-hour session. Saturday tickets have sold out, but there’s a limited amount still available for Friday. Tickets are available to buy here.
