New leadership project launches for South Leeds youth

Want to make a difference in your community? Want to meet new people, and learn new skills?

South Leeds teenagers are being invited to join a new ‘Cool 2 Care’ leadership programme, starting this month. The programme will feature weekly workshops, an adventure away-day in the countryside, and the opportunity to create a community action project or event. It’s free, and open to anyone aged 12-16.

Mahbub Nazir, a born-and-bred Beeston resident who has helped set up the scheme, commented:

“This projects aims to get different local young people together to explore their own identities, as well as learning about others and making friends; then get them thinking about the issues they and others face in their community; then support them to take action. It’s going to be good!”

The weekly sessions start on Tuesday 19 September, between 5.30pm-7pm, at the Hillside centre on Beeston Road (LS11 8ND). Pre-booking is essential, and places are limited.

To find out more or to apply, contact Mahbub: email gooddeeds@live.co.uk, or call 07833 995518.

Young people will need consent from parents or guardians. Partners and supporters include: Good Deeds Leeds, Leeds DEC, Child Friendly Leeds, and Near Neighbours (via the Church Urban Fund).
