
Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds.
St Luke’s Church have organised a Community Woodland Walk on Saturday. This is a chance to get out into nature, identify trees and fungi, gather tree seeds to plant and collect pine cones for wreath making. Meet outside the Tommy Wass pub, 450 Dewsbury Road, LS11 7LJ at 10am.
We start on Saturday morning with the Middleton Makers Market, 10am-2pm, at Middleton Park Circus. Lots of lovely handmade items including clothing, jewelery, soaps and food; all made by local people.
Leeds Dads will be holding another free Soft Play session, 10am-12pm on Sunday morning at Little Angels behind the Tommy Wass pub, LS11 7HL. This for dads and pre-school children and there’s free tea and toast! Book: leedsdads.org/events
Trinity Network host their Community Reflections Café on Saturday 10am-12pm at the United reformed Church, Nesfield Avenue, Belle Isle, LS10 3LG
More On The Moor: Move is a chance to tip your toe in the water and try a new activity for free. It’s on Saturday from 11am-3pm on Holbeck Moor and will include break dancing, Tai Chi, capoeira, roller skating and dance.
There will be a Remembrance service at Holbeck Cemetery (Fairfax Avenue, LS11 8SY) on Sunday. The service will be led by Rev Alistair Kaye from St Luke’s Church, but the people of all faiths and none are welcome to attend the event, which stars at 10:30am.
St John & St Barnabas Church in Belle Isle will celebrate a Requiem Mass for the Fallen, in Church, following the Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial at 10:55am.
Acts of Remembrance will also be held at Hunslet St Mary’s Spire, Church Street at 12:30pm; Stourton War Memorial, Wakefield Road, Thwaite Gate at 1pm; Hunslet Cemetery War Memorial (Middleton Road) at 1:30pm; and the Hunslet Carr Welcome Wheel (Balm Road LS10 2DN) at 2pm, followed by refreshments at Woodhouse Hill Community Centre from 2:30pm..
The South Leeds Community Kitchen will be cooking up a free meal on Sunday, 4-5:45pm, at St Mary’s Church, Town Street, Beeston (opposite Nisa).
Also on Sunday the Leeds Knights take on the Basingstoke in the NIHL National Division. The ice hockey match faces off at 5:15pm at Planet Ice on Elland Road.
There are a host of Police Contact Points this week. This is a chance to raise concerns or ask questions of the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team in an informal setting. On Tuesday they will be at Hunslet Community Hub & Library from 10am-12pm. On Wednesday they are at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library, 10am-12pm and at Ingram Gardens Community Centre from 10am-12pm. Then on Thursday they will be at Beeston Community Hub & Library on Town Street, 10am-12pm; and at the Hamara Centre, Tempest Road, Beeston, LS11 6RD, also 10am-12pm.
Holbeck Together host their monthly Wellbeing Breakfast Morning on at St Matthew’s Community Centre on Wednesday, 10am-12pm. As well as a cheap hot or cold breakfast there will be representatives from various agencies who can provide help and advice on a range of subjects to help you through the winter.
The council’s Employment & Skills service has organised a Jobs Fair on Wednesday 10am-1pm at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library, LS11 6PF. This is a chance to meet a range of ewmployees and find out more about current vacancies.
If you’re looking for a school place for next September, Hunslet Moor Primary School are holding an open afternoon on Wednesday from 4-5pm. The school is just off Dewsbury Road on Fairford Avenue, LS11 5EL.
There is a drop-in councillor surgery at Gascoigne House, LS10 4YA in Middleton on Thursday morning 9-10am.
Just Self Defence are running a two hour workshop on Thursday evening, 6-8pm at Middleton Leisure Centre (LS10 4AX). The class is for over 16s and will build your self confidence and help you feel safer this winter. Email: justselfdefence@gmail.com to book your place.
Friday sees a Christmas Fair at Gascoigne House extra care flats in Middleton (LS10 4YA). Drop in anytime between 11am-3pm.
And finally, Hunslet Tenants and Residents Association meet on Friday at 6 pm at the Involve Community Centre, Whitfield Avenue, Hunslet, LS10 2QE.
