
Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds.
We start with an apology, there was an error in last week’s roundup, the Middleton Makers Market, is in fact on this Saturday morning 10am-2pm, at Middleton Park Circus. Lots of lovely handmade items including clothing, jewellery, soaps and food; all made by local people. This month it features a Halloween Hunt and appearance from Spooky Stitch.
Cockburn Ingram Road Primary School is holding an open morning on Saturday, 10am-12pm, inviting families to explore the school and see the hard work and opportunities on offer.
Beeston Hill Community Association are hosting a free, family-friendly event for World Food Day on Saturday. Pop down to the Kurdish Community Centre, by Lane End Primary School, between 1-4pm to sample foods from around the world.
Do you have a bike that needs a bit of TLC? Take it along to The Hunslet Club on Saturday, 10am-1pm and the Big Bike Fix volunteers will do their best to fix it up for you. You can also donate old bikes which can then be repaired and given to someone who needs it.
There will be a children’s mural design workshop at Rowland Road Play Patch this Saturday from 11am-2pm. The play patch is behind Rowland Road Club in Beeston Hill.
Then from 1-4pm it’s the Belle Isle Repair Café at BITMO’s GATE, LS10 3QH. The fixers, stitchers and kitchen knife sharpeners will be on hand to give your goods a second lease of life. As usual tea and toasties will be on offer. From 2:30pm the will be a Councillor surgery and then at 3pm there will be a planning meeting for next year’s Belle Isle Gala.
St Cross Church are continuing with their 90th year celebrations by having a Harvest Supper on Saturday at 5.30pm. Tickets £5
On Sunday the Friends of Middleton Park will be pressing apples and pears at the visitor centre. You can bring your own fruit to press (but not shop bought please) and bring a bottle to take some juice home. There will also be children’s activities at this free event.
Better Beeston will be out picking litter on Sunday afternoon. Meet at Maud Avenue at 4pm, all equipment provided.
Also on Sunday the Leeds Knights take on the Milton Keynes Lightning in the NIHL National Cup. The ice hockey match faces off at 5:15pm at Planet Ice on Elland Road.
There are a host of Police Contact Points this week. This is a chance to raise concerns or ask questions of the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team in an informal setting. On Tuesday they will be at Hunslet Community Hub & Library from 10am-12pm. On Wednesday they are at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library, 10am-12pm and at Ingram Gardens Community Centre from 10am-12pm. Finally they will be at Beeston Community Hub & Library on Town Street on Thursday 10am-12pm.
Sharp Lane Primary School are holding an open evening on Tuesday from 4-6pm. This is a chance to look round the school, meet staff and ask questions.
Transform 25, the performance art festival comes to Holbeck on Wednesday with Surrender at Slung Low’s Warehouse in Holbeck 12-5pm. Then The Joy Stick and the Reins is on Friday at 8pm. Tickets from transformfestival.org
If you have a health condition or disability and are looking to gain employment or move closer to the labour market, health work coaches will be available to speak to at Hunslet Community Hub & Library on Wednesday, 10am-4pm.
Light Night comes to Leeds on Wednesday and Thursday nights, 6-10pm. As well as city centre venues there will be installations at The Tetley, Leeds Dock, the Royal Armouries Museum and Testbed. Full details at www.lightnightleeds.co.uk
If you enjoy painting in a relaxed atmosphere with a glass of something, join Pinot & Picasso at Fearns near Leeds Dock on Wednesday 3-5pm. Both beginner and experienced creatives can look forward to a cosy evening of bringing seasonal art to life. Full details and tickets here.
And finally, Leeds United entertain West Ham United in the Premiership on Friday, kicking off at 8pm. You can expect the usual heavy traffic and parking issues around Beeston, Holbeck and Cottingley before and after the match.
